CHAPTER ELEVEN

A handful of girls broke down and wanted to go home right away. Their families lived close and the guy with Zachary, the one that always scowled, drove them home. That left nine of them to share the beds in the two rooms for the night. They took turns showering and changing into the baggy sweats the guys bought for them, saving the leggings and nicer tunics for going home. All brand new.

Tyrone had got them clothes, but only t-shirts and shorts aside from the uniforms they wore on the floor. Receiving new clothes like this was different. It may not have been meant as a gift, but that's exactly what it felt like. And it made her feel just little bit special.

She pulled the collar of her sweater to her nose and inhaled. The clothes smelled new.

Zachary sat in the chair to the side of the window, watching the parking lot outside. Why had she agreed to go with him? She should go home to her mom and brother. She should at least be out looking for Holly first, and they both could go home together.

He was the hero of them all, but when he touched her, looked at her, said her name, a bed of embers grew and heated inside her. His mussed hair fell over narrowed eyes, eyes that she'd seen glow. The shadow on his jaw and around his mouth had gotten darker. A wolf hiding beneath the man should concern her. She understood about Holly, but Holly was only an owl. Zachary, and his friends, were large predators. Yet, they showed an interest in rescuing them, all of them, when no one else who'd entered that place had.

There'd been a pull toward Zachary inside the club, but now that she was free of those restraints she only felt confused. Floundering in a world she no longer knew. Ezaray needed to go to her family, but she didn't want to see people. She didn't want to face the world, and she didn't want to face home without Holly.

Zachary was a bold choice set in front of her, giving her a reason to hide.

He didn't treat any of the other girls the same way he'd treated her. Like an attraction he didn't know what to do about it.

Oh, she bet he knew what to do about it. Her situation made him pause.

Blue eyes, as Holly had pegged him, stepped into the room. It surprised Ezaray how silently such big men could move. She only heard him, and saw him, because she'd been awake.

"Nathan's back too. He's patrolling outside."

Zachary nodded, his eyes never left the parking lot.

"I'll take a turn at the window."

Zachary didn't argue, and Asher took his place. But as soon as his focus was off watching for danger, it turned directly on her. He crouched down on her side of the bed so his face was level with hers.

"You're the only one not asleep." He'd known that whole time without ever looking at her.

"Too much to think about, I guess.
