Dedrick

He was at work thinking how fucked up his life was. He had saved up enough money to get a small apartment because things were too chaotic with Kandy and her mama. The two of them couldn’t get along and argued constantly about everything. The only thing they seemed to agree on is that he should pay all the household bills. He didn’t even pay all the bills at his house, so there was no way in hell he was gonna pay them all at someone else’s! Kandy wasn’t even his woman, technically. She was just a smash who was turning out to be a terrible mistake.

Her attitude was all over the place and he was guessing it was her hormones. To top it off, she was always bringing Chantel up in every situation. He never thought that Kandy might be jealous of Chantel, but the way she kept constantly talking about her he was starting to see it. He wasn’t surprised when he told her he was moving out, that she didn’t even put up a fight to ask him to stay. She helped him pack the little things that he did have. He had a feeling she was still fucking with her baby daddy on the side because she always had something to complain about with him. When he would come by the job to drop off money for the child, he would always give him the side eye. He couldn’t prove it, but he wasn’t putting anything past her.

She said she wanted to put her best foot forward and have a real relationship with him, so he was going to give it a shot. He really wanted to go home and beg Chantel to take him back, but he knew she wouldn’t be down for that anytime soon, especially with a baby on his hip. Hell no.

Kandy had been staying at his place full-time for about two weeks and her attitude had gotten worse. All she did was complain and eat. She didn’t clean anything, ever, and cooking was out of the question. He didn’t know how much longer he was going to be able to deal with her. When he came home from work one day last week, she was sitting on the living room floor, crying. The doctor told her she had developed gestational diabetes, which resulted in having to self-inject herself twice a day. Her sugar needed to be maintained at a certain level to avoid complications during labor, or the possibility of slipping into a diabetic coma should the levels become too low. Dedrick wasn’t good with sickness and he had no idea what to say or how to comfort her; all he could do was hold her and tell her it would be okay.

He couldn’t help but wonder if he was meant to be a father considering Chantel had all sorts of issues conceiving, and now Kandy was sick. He could only hope and pray everything was going to be alright. He really didn't want to be with her, but he definitely couldn’t leave her now.
