CHAPTER 16

IMANI

After my quick shower, I strolled down the rustic staircase and into the open floor plan that connected his living room space with the kitchen area. This was the first time I could take it all in without being distracted by all the crazy shit I’d seen.

“Wow.” I spun around, staring at the decor of Quinn’s home. It was simply stunning and was the type of house that was featured in country home design magazines. A true family home that begged to be filled with laughter, love, and happiness—something I would never have—no matter how badly I wanted it.

“Hello?” I called out.

“In here,” Quinn answered.

Striding inside, I froze when I saw that not only was Quinn in the kitchen. Rhett and Emmett were sitting at the island, along with three other men I’d seen before.

Quinn’s back was facing me as he stood in front of the stove, stirring something that smelled absolutely delicious. I couldn’t get over what a gigantic man he was. I could have sat on one of his shoulders easily. His back rippled with muscle that pushed against his shirt, and his long, powerful thighs bulged against the fabric of his jeans.

Rhett stood. “Hello again. We haven’t been properly introduced. I’m Rhett Ward, the town sheriff—aka the Protector—and pack beta.” He wasn’t carrying a weapon, and instead of a uniform, he wore all black with his gold shield on his belt.

Quinn turned around. His eyes zeroed in on me. My eyes scanned down his muscular body that looked rather spectacular in his black T-shirt and dark straight-leg jeans over well-worn cowboy boots.

Shit. He’s all my hot, dirty cowboy sexual fantasies rolled into one hellacious package.

Rhett pointed over at the man he’d been sitting beside. “That’s Mack Owen. He’s my deputy and pack enforcer.”

Mack saluted. He looked like an older version of Chris Hemsworth but with dark brown hair.

“You’ve already met me,” Emmett said. Tonight his hair was pulled into a long black ponytail. “I’m also the pack’s enforcer, along with Brody and Jasper.”

“I’m Brody Thornbern,” said an incredibly attractive man with short-cropped, military-styled black hair and gray eyes. “I’m the proud maker of the BF Home Brew that I heard you got tipsy on.”

I pointed at Quinn. “Snitches get stitches.”

Quinn winked at me. “Nothing is secret in the pack.”

“Hi, I’m Jasper.” The last man smiled, a slow lifting of perfect lips to reveal straight white teeth. “Welcome to Black Forest.”

“Nice to meet you all.” My lips curled into a smile before I walked over to Quinn. I peered into the big pot filled with carrots, potatoes, celery, beef tips, and broth, just to name a few things. “Your beef stew smells delicious.”

“It’s leftover stew I made ahead,” he replied. “I’m reheating it.”

The aroma was making the entire kitchen smell delicious, and I couldn’t wait to dig in.

My eyes panned the gourmet kitchen fit for a professional chef. The rustic space had a ceiling made of heavily textured exposed wood beams, richly stained inset cabinet doors, and two cooking areas designed to accommodate a variety of culinary techniques.
