“That was…” I shook my head as I tried to find the words to explain what I’d just experienced.

But I could find none.

Beside me, Hayden bobbed his head as loud laughter from a group caught his eye. "Humans may not possess abilities like supernatural creatures, but you can feel and sometimes sense magic."

I'd absolutely felt something. After shifting, Colin had walked into the crowd where he was patted and welcomed before he ran off into the forest, and the drums began once more, but to begin the festivities Hayden said would last until morning.

Food and drinks were shared, and a woman had brought a cup to me.

I’d been touched by the gesture, and slowly but surely, I was feeling more at ease. Now when I caught many looking at me, their stares were accompanied by a smile.

Arms snaked around my waist, and I let my head fall back against Malaki’s shoulder without looking back. I knew only he would hold me like this.

"Hi," he kissed my temple, and my cheeks warmed at him being so openly affectionate. I turned to face him, and he kissed my forehead. “Having fun?”

“Hi,” I chuckled. “I am, but behave. People are staring.”

He threw his arm over my shoulder and bent to my ear. “Good.”

Hayden cleared his throat. "Well, I'm going to go find my daughter. You two are making me miss my wife, and I don't appreciate it. Vanessa, it was great meeting you.”

"Likewise," I told him, and a silent message passed between him and Malaki as Hayden smirked before walking away.

“What was that?” I asked Malaki, who shrugged.

“No idea,” he laughed. “So, what did you think about the ceremony?”

I closed my eyes. "It was amazing, Malaki. I got a little worried when Alpha Kaleem bit Colin, but I’ve never seen a werewolf transform, not like that. It looked like—agony but still so profoundly beautiful. I’m honored I could see this.”

“I’m happy you enjoyed the ceremony,” another voice said, and my eyes opened to find Kaleem approaching us. He placed his fist over his heart, and I did the same. "It's nice to finally meet you, Vanessa."

I looked up at Malaki, who was smiling almost proudly before I returned my attention to Kaleem. “It’s great meeting you, Alpha Kaleem, and yes, I thoroughly enjoyed the ceremony.”

“Please, call me Kaleem.”

“So, you're the famous Doctor Good," another man joined us, but unlike every other werewolf I’d met or seen, he was just as tall but slender. “I’m Kei.”

“Kei’s a Kitsune,” Malaki explained. "A Japanese fox shifter, but he's been a friend to the pack since we were kids."

“Oh,” I drawled.

I’d only ever heard of the Kitsune species, but I'd never met one.

Nonetheless, it was nice to meet another outsider. His black hair that was bone straight to his chest was pulled back with half of it wrapped in a bun while the rest cascaded down his back. His black eyes narrowed as he smiled at me then he bowed.

I did the same, my hair curtaining my face before I stood up once more.
