This stack of Model T frames illustrates the differences between early frames and those built between 1923 and 1926. Later frames have a significantly wider rear crossmember compared to pre-1923 frames. The narrower frame looks sleeker on a speedster.

On the finished car the early rear crossmember barely protrudes past the body.

MODEL T SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS

Model T speedsters make wonderful do-it-yourself projects because parts are plentiful and widely interchangeable, and the complexity of the project can be tailored to fit one’s skills, budget, and available tools. Moreover, the Ford Model T was the first production car extensively modified and hot rodded on a vast scale from the very beginning, so period photographs and written materials are easy to find. The abundance of original source material is great for ideas on body shapes, construction details, and solutions to problems one is likely to encounter.
