Sabrina woke up the next morning in a cold bed. Damien was gone, and so was his body heat. She had been prepared for that because he’d told her he wasn’t going to stay. And there was no arguing that point. It made sense. She’d already slept with him once when she’d crawled in bed with him and woke the next morning spooning. Now she’d had mind-blowing sex with him. It might be nice to combine those two.

She was so worn out and sore that she wanted to call in sick. People did that, she knew, at jobs and such. She’d never had a real job though, and the only time she could ever take an unplanned day off had meant the flu accompanied by a high fever. Now she worked for herself in a way. The B&B belonged to her family. Her grandmother. How did one call in sick to their own grandmother? She couldn’t do it. Anyway, Jessie would hunt her down. Then she’d see the afterglow on Sabrina’s face and lay into her. But Sabrina hadn’t made the same mistake twice. Damien wouldn’t hurt her. He wouldn’t use her.

But maybe she shouldn’t have had sex with him. Okay, for sure she shouldn’t have. First, she’d never been with a guy who made it clear that he refused to fall in love. She’d been the recipient of plenty of fan mail from men who said they were already in love with her when they didn’t even know her. Offering marriage proposals. She supposed this thing with Damien was what people called casual sex, and she hadn’t been raised that way. Mom would have a conniption fit if she knew, and her father would roll over in his grave. Twice. She deserved better than temporary. Her parents, hell, her sisters had drilled it into her.

A twinge of guilt shot down her spine because she would much rather have a real relationship. But she still didn’t regret this. For all of his anti-love talk, Damien had been tender. Slow. They’d taken a shower together at some point, and he’d washed her hair. They’d wound up in bed again after the shower because she just couldn’t resist him. He’d asked whether she was okay so many times she began to wonder if she looked sick. But no, he’d wanted to make sure she was enjoying him. She would have more of him, too, and as soon as possible.

She took a good look at her face in the bathroom mirror as she brushed her teeth and got ready for the day. Sex was definitely good for the complexion. Her skin was smooth and silky this morning with a little extra pink color. It had to be all the endorphins.

Loading up on coffee, she headed toward the B&B and the maid cart. Today she had to strip beds in two rooms and get them ready for the next guests. Rolling the cart into the Seaside room on the first floor, she plugged her earbuds in and went to her Spotify playlist.
