CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE

“Seven.” Holly flowed toward him as soon as Camila brought him into the living room. “This a lovely surprise.”

“I hope I’m not interrupting.” Seven gave Holly quick pecks on her cheeks while eyeing Kaya.

“I’ll check on the dinner, Ma’am.” Camila left the room.

“You look wonderful.” Holly held out Seven’s arms. “Doesn’t he, Kaya? Have you ever known a man with so much style?”

Seven smirked, pulling on the thick lapel of his lavender suit with black undertones. “Hello, Kaya. I saw your car in the driveway.”

“Sure you couldn’t miss it.” She faked a smile. “It’s parked between Holly’s brand new Lexus and Mercedes.”

Holly grinned, patting her hair.

“We were just discussing how she came into so much money.” Kaya wiggled her hands. “Care to share an opinion on that, Seven?”

He sauntered to Kaya, every movement thrusting his spicy cologne in her direction. “Holly likes the finer things in life and I feel she deserves them.” He tilted his head with a slick smile. “Don’t you?”

“She’s sleeping with you for money?”

“Seven, what are you doing here?” Holly leapt in between them, taking his hand. “Thought you were going to Mrs. Feinstein’s son’s cocktail party.”

“I was on my way, but I wanted to check on you.” His gaze remained on Kaya as he kissed Holly’s nose. “I forgot you were having dinner with the lovely Kaya tonight.”

Kaya blew out her cheeks. “As if you could ever forget that detail.”

“Kaya, is there a problem?” He unbuttoned his blazer, showing off his white, Ralph Lauren shirt. “You didn’t want me so I moved on.”

“With my best friend?”

“Didn’t you do the same thing?” He batted his thin lashes. “Why is it okay for you to fuck Brandon but I can’t see Holly?”

“I’m not fucking Brandon.” She tightened her lips. “I like him and we’re taking it slow not that it’s your business.”

“There’s no motive for me being with Holly. She’s a very engaging and beautiful woman.” He put his arm around Holly who beamed from east-to-west. “How’s life with Brandon treating you? Bored yet?”

“On the contrary.” She raised her eyebrows. “Every moment with him is like jumping out of a plane.”

“How’s the painting going?” He drew closer. “Finished Jakande’s piece? I’d love to see it when you finish—”

“Fuck you.”

He leaned into her. “You don’t know how much I wish you would,” he whispered. “Mrs. Feinstein still wants to get with you about a piece for her home and my mother hopes you’ll reconsider being in her magazine.”

“I’m gonna go, Holly.”

Seven grabbed Kaya’s wrist as she attempted to pass. “Don’t let me come between two friends. I’ll go.”

She yanked her hand from him. “You’re not doing this, Seven.”

“What am I doing?”

“You’re using Holly to stay in my life. I won’t let you hurt her.”

“He’s not using me.” Holly’s bosom rose with rapid breaths. “You could’ve had all this. I even warned you against messing things up but you didn’t listen, and that’s on you.”

Kaya pointed to Seven. “This man is a creep.”

Seven snickered under his hand.

“He attacked me.
