Chapter 9

Brogen

After a fantastic evening, night and morning with Samantha, knowing now how she feels about me, has sent me on a new high in this existence. Even after all the sorrow and grief I’ve gone through in my life, Rebecca and Lucy being murdered and the war, becoming, this. I’ve learned that I am worthy of love. That I am worthy of living this life that was forced upon me so many years ago. I can tolerate it and continue life as I know it, but happier.

I dropped Samantha at her apartment security door, kissing her and ravishing her lips once again before letting her go. After I knew she was safely inside, I drove home. I’ll sit here and wait until night fall and then I can feed.

I’ve ignored my vampire urges for far too long, and I don’t want to take another chance at possibly losing that control when I’m with Samantha again. It was close, so, so close and I was barely able to rein it in as it was.

I can hear movement in the forest behind the gas station and laughing, but this woman needs help, and fast.

“What’s your name? Miss? Can you hear me?” I ask her quietly.

I wrap an arm under her shoulders, supporting her head and the other arm under her legs and I lift her up to my chest. Her breathing is shallow and as I round the building, I can see a purse on the ground. There is another car at the gas pumps but didn’t pay it no mind when I first stopped.

“Amy. I was attacked by a man and he hurt me.” Her breath falters and her head lolls back. She’s dead.

“Amy, I will find the man who tormented you and I will kill him. He needs to die, along with his friends. I will kill him Amy, you can rest at peace knowing I will avenge you.” I lower her to the ground in front of the station, open the door and tell the cashier to call the police and ambulance.

I grab Amy’s purse and bring it over to her. I kneel down next to her, looking over her wounds, and
