CHAPTER 10THE OTHER

Still troubled by the episode with Teri the day before, I resisted the day's first exercises.

It did not occur to me at first to place that episode into my energy conversion box with all the other minor and major issues of everyday life.

By the third session of the day, I knew I had to do something and was still too ashamed to talk to one of the counselors.

So, as the third exercise began, I wrapped the whole disturbing and sordid event in a balloon of purest white energy and placed it into my energy conversion box. Nothing was solved, but I knew I could put this away for a time and continue the training.

The third exercise of the day was an introduction to Focus 21, the state that exists at the edge of space/time and offers the ability to contact and communicate with other energies and energy systems.

In Focus 21, we learned to open our minds to the possibility of other conscious entities and to seek guidance and knowledge from intelligent sources beyond the ordinary waking mind.

The soldiers that attended training with me experienced Focus 21 in a variety of ways. Some saw and recognized the life force of trees or flowers and even rocks.

Others saw and communicated with friends or loved ones who had long ago passed from this life to the next. The communication was rarely reported as verbal. Others, like me, saw and felt entities that may or may not have ever existed in human form.

Once again, the binaural beat took me away to a different reality. I turned away from my energy conversion box and into the altered state of consciousness called focus twelve.

I heard the voice telling me not to go searching but to let my mind broadcast an invitation, a willingness to be drawn to some other consciousness that held an affinity for mine.

I lay there in the dark, feeling the beat of the tones flow through my body. One moment I was lying in the darkness, feeling my energy-self rocking back and forth inside the human shell that was my physical body. The next moment I was flying low across a dark and strange landscape.

At first, I thought it was the surface of the moon as I had seen it pictured a thousand times in books, photographs, and live videos from the Apollo landings.

That couldn’t be, but this landscape looked similar to our satellite with its grey and dusty plains littered with the coarse residue of stones, boulders, troughs, and peaks.

This land was illuminated by a soft, grayish-silver glow that must be from the moon or a moon of somewhere else.

I must be in some foreign place, I thought, somewhere new and unknown. I flew along, sometimes inches from the ground, occasionally high in a cloudless, softly muted sky of a strangely luminous grey.

I followed the lay of the land, over small rounded hills and down into deep ravines that resembled the ragged, water-torn gorges of the American west.

As I flew, a picture grew in my mind of the goldfinches that invaded our yard each spring when I was a child.
