CHAPTER 21
Fancy’s heart was pumping ice water through her veins. If what Nasir had said was true, tonight she would see Tone and his Harlem bitch up in the club. And her mission was to make him choose right then and there in front of all his homeboys who he wanted to be with. And from the way she looked and felt, she knew it would be her.
The line outside Club Reign curled down the block. Fancy handed the gypsy cabdriver his thirty-dollar fare and even managed a small tip. As she and her Aunt Brenda strutted toward the venue, both women instantly caught the attention of the partygoers. Eyes scanned their thick, sexy legs and their sexy outfits. Hoodlums and thugs made catcalls at them, and the women tossed their eyes toward the sky in envy.
Fancy smiled. She was feeling wickedly sexy and dangerously horny tonight. The thought of challenging Tone was a complete turn-on.
She led the way past all the losers who stood obediently in line, and sidled up to the stocky, muscular head bouncer with a wrestler’s build. She leaned in close and said, “I’m not on the list, but I’m Fancy Lane. You may know my father.”
The bouncer gave her a look of recognition and then smiled. He nodded and opened up the ropes. “Tell Alex, Bubba said hello.” And then he added, “Let him know I took care of you.”
Fancy was slowly getting used to her life of ghetto fabulousness. Sure, just mere months ago she was living with a platinum spoon in her mouth, which was great, but in the underworld, she got props too. People respected her and even feared her because of who her father was. His rep was still telling his story. She reveled in her newfound respect and intended to use it to her advantage, finally understanding what it meant to be Alexandro’s daughter.
It didn’t take them long to spot Nasir, Shoe-Shine, and the rest of the crew inside the club.
“Damn, Fancy! Why you bring my moms?” Nasir sucked his teeth in disgust.
“Just in case that Harlem bitch try some shit wit’ my niece,” Brenda replied.
“And whatchu gonna fuckin’ do?” Nasir was thoroughly disgusted. Cutting up coke and all that shit behind doors with his moms was acceptable, but in a nightclub where the median age was twenty-two, it was just ghetto. He had to draw the line somewhere. “You should take ya ass home!”
“Don’t get cute, Nasir.” Brenda stared him down viciously. “I’m still your mother, and I’ve already earned my respect. Now, buy me a Henny on ice, so I can drop it like it’s hot.” She dropped down to the floor and popped back up like she was Beyoncé. “Owwwwww!” She burst into laughter. “An old bitch still got it.”
Nasir just stormed off, embarrassed by his mother’s behavior.
Meanwhile, Fancy was too preoccupied scanning the room, looking for Tone.
“He ain’t here yet,” Shoe-Shine said, stating the obvious.
“Mind your business.”
“I’m just trying to look out for you.”
“I don’t need your help.
