Thea walks up to Davyn’s door, lifts her hand to knock, then lowers it again. She’s been completing the same ritual for going on seven minutes, and she’s starting to piss herself off. She went to see him in the cell, only to find that she was too late. Annie and Fletch had let him come back to his own room to recover.

She silently kicked herself every step of the walk from there to here. Seeing him in the cell would have been so much easier than his private room. The last time she was here was when he fed from her. That hadn’t gone too well for her, and she wasn’t keen on repeating the experience. Especially after what had happened between them.

She pushes her shoulders back and straightens her t-shirt. She had thrown on the first one in her drawer and is now adding that choice to her list of regrets. The faded, and slightly too big t-shirt had a picture of a unicorn on the front. It had been relegated to her pyjama pile a long time ago and was most definitely not something she wanted someone she’s attracted to, seeing her in.

She glances down at the faded multicoloured unicorn and grimaces. As if a t-shirt is going to make one bit of difference. This is Davyn she’s talking about. She doubts he keeps an eye on the latest fashion trends. His entire wardrobe seemed to consist of his fighting clothes, faded blue jeans, scuffed biker boots, and a few black t-shirts.

She pushes her hair off her shoulder, somewhat grateful that she at least took the time to wash and style it after her training session earlier. ‘Right unicorn, let’s do this.’

Before she chickens out... again, she knocks three times and holds her breath, a small part of her hoping he doesn’t answer.

A gruff, ‘Yeah,’ from inside the room stops any chance of her making a run for it. She licks her lips, smooths out the unicorn again, and opens the door. A soon as she sees him, her feet plant themselves to the floor.

He’s lying on his side, propped up on half a dozen pillows. It looks like his first priority after escaping the cell was to spend some time on himself. His thick hair has been shaved at the sides and back again, but not enough to show the crude tattoo on his head. The top is much shorter than usual and standing up in soft spikes. His scraggly beard has been trimmed and hugs his strong jaw. He’d also put back in his eyebrow rings, helping to make him look more like his old self.

His enormous wings lie behind him, taking up their fair share of the bed. Each one is wrapped in heavy gauze, securely protecting his wings in a moisture rich cocoon. While in his father’s custody, he had lost a lot of muscle making his t-shirt seem a little too big for him. In spite of the enormous wings, he seems a lot smaller than she remembers, and that upsets her.
