CHAPTER SEVEN

"So, any word on who's after us now?" Raven asked Mage as she set a large mug of coffee in front of her and in front of Beth.

"No. Logan hasn't been able to find anything out. "He has Parker doing some more research," Mage answered.

"Nothing on my end either, but I've been really busy lately," Beth added.

"I got this in the mail. I haven't shown it to Xavier yet," Raven told them, setting a large envelope on the kitchen table.

Beth picked up the envelope and opened it, her eyes widening when she saw the contents.

"You need to tell Xavier," Beth told her.

"I know, and I will. I wanted to get your take on it first," Raven said.

"We're going to your house right now to do a protection spell," Mage insisted. Beth nodded as she quickly drained her coffee before following her cousins out.

"How was your day?" Xavier asked as Raven climbed into bed next to him. She smiled and wrapped her arms around Xavier, rested her head on his shoulder.

"It was alright. Mage, Beth and I cast a protection spell earlier," Raven answered.

"What's going on?" Xavier wanted to know. Raven pulled the envelope out of the drawer of the nightstand. "I'm going to kill him!" Xavier growled. Raven placed a hand on Xavier's arm.

"Don't Xave. He's not worth it," Raven murmured.

"He should know better than to threaten what's mine!" Xavier reminded her.

"I'm fine Xavier. Really. Beth and Mage and you and your family will make sure of that," Raven reminded him.

"Who wants sandwiches?"

Beth walked out of the kitchen carrying plates with sandwiches and homemade chips.

"Raven, what's wrong?" Beth asked when she saw her cousin hunched over, clutching her abdomen. "I, I don't know!" Raven's voice was filled with pain, and her eyes were wide with panic. Beth fumbled for her cell phone.

"Cole, it's me. Get Xavier, something's wrong with Raven," Beth said before hanging up.

Xavier was nearly in a panic when he and Charles got to Gambit and he breathed a sigh of relief when he saw them. "What's happening?" Raven asked, her eyes full of tears.

"You're changing," Xavier said gently.

"It hurts!" Raven gasped. Xavier nodded and knelt in front of her.

"I know baby. "It's going to be okay," Xavier's voice was gentle as he stroked her hair.

"What can I do?" Beth wanted to know.

"I need to get her some place with lots of room," Xavier answered. "And not the compound," he added.

"My house is pretty private," Beth suggested.

"Are Cole and the kids there?" Xavier wanted to know.

"No. He took the kids to the fair," Beth told him.

"Good. Charles is out front, go direct him to the back door," Xavier said. His voice was shaking, revealing his nervousness; he'd never turned anyone before.

"Do you need me to call your dad?" Beth asked as Xavier scooped Raven into his arms and headed for the back entrance.

"Please," Xavier said as the door swung shut behind him.

"Xavier, make it stop," Raven pleaded, writhing in pain.

"It'll stop soon," Xavier soothed, rubbing her back gently after he set her in the van.
