Taylor’s memory didn’t serve him well these days, but it did the instant Carly opened her front door. One look at her and he knew what she and Jax had been up to. He had recognized Jax’s car in her driveway and started to turn around and go back home. After taking a moment to reconsider, he had decided finding them together at her place might be a gift from above.

He expected to feel jealous at the confirmation that Carly had obviously given her sultry body to Jax less than twenty-four hours after he’d had sex with her behind the firehouse. Instead, hope washed through his system. Maybe this was the first step to the three of them getting back to the way they used to be…however things were when they were together before.

He noted the guilt mixing with the surprise on Carly’s angelic face as she stared at him. He cleared his throat. “Did I interrupt?”

Her beautiful eyes drifted closed and she exhaled a slow breath. “No. We were finished.”

He felt himself grin. At least she didn’t attempt to hide the obvious with a lie. “Good.” He raked a quick glance down her sultry body. She had thrown on a robe and likely nothing else. His dick danced to life behind the zipper of his jeans. “Get dressed. Let’s go for a picnic.”

Her eyes flew open and her brows etched together. “A picnic?”

Taylor shrugged and turned slightly to gesture at the sun high in the sky. “Why not? It’s a beautiful day.”

“Taylor, yesterday…” She trailed off and shot a glance into the house behind her, obviously realizing whatever excuse she had been about to give him wouldn’t be believable now that he caught her with Jax.

“Was amazing,” he finished for her. “I didn’t come here looking for a repeat.” Though he damn sure wouldn’t mind it if she wanted that instead of a picnic. “The other night when we went to River Park, it jarred something in my memory. It wasn’t much, but it was something. I was hoping you would go somewhere else with me, some other place we used to go, and maybe it will jar something more in my head.”

He watched the mental battle going on in her head through her eyes. Finally, she pursed her luscious lips as she took a step back, turned sideways, and invited him inside with a flourish of her arm. “Where did you have in mind?”

Taylor stepped through the doorway just as Jax was coming down the hall. He was as naked as the day he was born and stopped short in his tracks at the sight of Taylor.

“I wondered why you hadn’t made it home yet after your shift ended,” Taylor commented, and didn’t miss the mixture of guilt and irritation that moved through his friend’s eyes.

Jax raked a hand down his face, averted his gaze to the pile of clothes on the living room floor, and headed for them. “I had something to do. It didn’t work out like I’d planned.
