I was really glad that I paid for first-class on my fake credit card because I got free drinks and food on the flight. I deserved that shit after what I had been through. The seats were bigger and I even let myself take a nap with the complimentary blanket and pillow.

As we landed I pulled my bag from the overhead bin and made my way off the plane. I could feel the difference in the air in Colorado than Florida and I knew that I was almost safe. There was no guarantee of safety at this point but I could enjoy the little bit I felt now.

Walking out of the airport I smile when I spot my ride. He doesn’t even notice me until I walk right up to him.

“Not right now sweetheart, I’m waiting for someone.” He says blowing me off. That earns him a bit of respect in my book that he wouldn’t let himself get distracted by a hot piece of ass right now.

“Alpha Silas,” I purr at him and he does a double-take. It is almost comical.

“Umbra” He whispers.

“Yes, it’s nice to see you again, Silas. And you're even on time this time.” I snark, and the Alpha flinches at my words.

“Umm this way,” He says, awkwardly turning and directing me towards a big black truck. Of course that’s what he drives, so everyone can see that he has big dick energy. When we are seated in the truck Silas takes off and he seems nervous.

Probably remembering the impression he left the last time we met. I don’t hold a grudge though, it was a stressful situation that night. If I was in his shoes I don’t know that I would have handled it any better. Was I going to tell Silas that? No, because he was kind of fun to play with.

“Why did you call me?” Silas asks after we have been driving for a while.

“Well, a few reasons really. I assume my family is being watched so I didn’t want them to start acting weird and raise suspicions. For two, you were conveniently located and you owed me one. And last but not least, this gives me a chance to talk to you about Sam,” I say, looking at my nails as if it’s no big deal. Out of the corner of my eye, I see the big Alpha cringe. At least that tells me he knows enough to feel guilty.

“How is Sam? I tried to call him a few times but I haven’t gotten through,” Silas says, and I hope that he really did try and isn’t just trying to make me like him. That shit is wasted on me. You either earn it or you don’t.

“Oh, Sam has been a little busy, so that is probably why he hasn’t called back. You can ask him when we get there. What I really want to know is why you tolerate homophobia in your pack?” I say, lifting an eyebrow at him. This wasn’t just for Sam, because I was sure Sam was staying with us for good.
