So I gave the picture to Groucho, who uncapped his black Sharpie and wrote, “To Steve - A valuable man - from Groucho.” He accidentally crossed the first “l” in “valuable,” which caused him to comment, “It looks like it says, ‘To Steve, the vegetable man,’ but you know what I mean.” I did and I appreciated it.

And so I made the decision to stick it out, regardless of how hazy Groucho got or how crazy Erin got, all the while assuming that either Groucho was going to fail to wake up one day or, when I least expected it, Erin was going to can me without a moment’s warning and without any reason other than that she’d gotten tried of looking at my face.
