CHAPTER 38
Royal and Delia promptly broke apart at Aisha’s unexpected interruption. They were both breathing heavily. The color of embarrassment painted their cheeks. Even so, Delia didn’t dare move off Royal’s lap, lest an even more embarrassing situation ensue. However, she did return to a sideways position.
“Y’all need a chaperone,” Aisha told them in her usual candid manner. “Five to fifteen of them based on what I just saw. Reminds me of Greg and me in the early days.” She chuckled and entered the porch area more fully.
Royal and Delia laughed, too. The passion in their bodies was quickly cooling by the second.
“I remember how hot-blooded you and Bonz were back then,” Delia said, finally able to move from Royal’s lap to a seat beside him. “From what I’ve seen tonight, y’all still need to carry a fire hose around.”
Aisha grinned. “Hey, what can I say.” She shrugged. “The people on my mother’s side of the family come hot-blooded like that. When we love someone, we put our all into it. When that special person reciprocates that love, things tend to get explosive.” She smirked at them and added, “But I’m sure y’all know all about that.”
“Yes, we do,” Royal replied, returning that teasing smirk. “Now what did you come out here for? Besides chaperoning, of course.”
Aisha giggled. “Well, I was hoping you’d come inside and help me honor our guests with a few live musical requests. Our DJ has been going strong all day and I want to give him at least thirty minutes to just take a breather. Maybe get something else to eat.”
“You want us to honor their requests like we used to do in the old days when we performed for your parents and their friends?” Royal was already grinning at those memories of when they used to sharpen their talents on anyone that would listen to them.
Aisha grinned, pleased that he remembered those happy childhood days, too. “Yes, like we did in the old days,” she confirmed. “That new baby grand we just got for our den is just waiting for your talented fingers.”
“New baby grand?” Royal’s eyes lit up, revealing his fondness for that particular instrument. “Let me at it.” He stood to his feet, pulling Delia up with him. “Precious, you get the first request.”
“Uh…actually I need to speak to Precious alone for a brief moment,” Aisha said, sending Delia a pointed look, causing her to sit back down again. “You go on inside, Roy. Greg will show you where everything is, including the mikes I want y’all to set up for us,” Aisha continued, looking at her cousin again.
“All right,” Royal replied, discerning that the women needed some time for a little girl talk. After planting a tender kiss on Delia’s forehead, he left and went inside.
“Thanks for blocking, Aisha. I didn’t know things were going to get so heated between us so fast,” Delia said, immediately addressing the obvious reason for this little girl talk.
“You’re welcome.” Aisha grinned as she sat down beside her on the bench.
