When is the right time to begin? Right now, of course! Now is the right time.

Preparing before a crisis hits is responsible. But afterwards, as mentioned, preparing is not only much harder, but potentially irresponsible if it slips over into the realm of hoarding.

The good news is that today you can click your computer mouse and have your desired items dropped off in your driveway two days later. This is one of the more profound miracles of plentiful petroleum, which will not last forever. Again, each of us should plan as if we don’t know what tomorrow will bring.

Many of the things you may need will take time to identify and afford. Maybe lots of time. Installing a solar energy system, a garden, or reinsulating your house will take time to design and implement. There are lots of decisions to be made and only so many brain cells and thought cycles available. Remember, building resilience is a journey not a destination. It’s just not possible to “finish” everything quickly. Chris and Adam’s own efforts to increase their Material Capital have taken many years, and they are very much still ongoing.
