A kiss could be chaste, two sets of lips against each other with as much intimacy as a high five. It could be unpleasant, so easily mismatched in pace, moisture, and intensity. And if you were me? Celeste would kiss you in a way that shook the earth beneath you. Or it would have if you'd been on dry land. I'd known that no one could be that straight-laced, that prepared and proper without some serious heat burning deep within them, but until now I hadn't truly tasted what Celeste could offer.

She was astounding.

When her lips met mine, I'd played along for show, even though my body soon took hold and ran wild with the pleasure being so close to her gave me. Gone were the boundaries between reality and our fake relationship, gone were the limits of our skin and bodies. It was like we merged, two beams of energy playing at the edges of an ecstasy I'd never witnessed before.

Celeste's beauty was obvious, her riches infamous, and her way of carrying herself intimidating—or funny, depending on whether you were on the firing end of her wrath. But that kiss revealed a deeper, sensual layer to her being that burned hotter than her anger ever had.

So, in short, it was a damn good kiss.

We emerged from it changed; I knew it. The shimmering depths of her eyes fixed on mine told me she'd felt it, too. Our cheeks were flushed, bodies tingling with an electricity that fired from one nerve ending to another instantaneously. She smiled at me, but the smile was shaky.

Maybe we'd gone too far.

She was technically my boss. If I'd been in this situation with anyone else, especially someone I'd worked with under more professional circumstances, I'd have been deeply uncomfortable with what she just pulled. With Celeste, though, I'd known there was a chance we'd have to kiss and pretend.

If I was being completely honest with myself, I'd hoped there was. Banked on it a bit, even. Because the rush from being that close to her, from tasting the sweet blackberry flavor of her lips and mouth, it was unlike anything I'd experienced before. And I'd tried a lot in my life so far.

Her hands rested on my body and we kept dancing, moving in a slow circle with that bright-burning energy simmering between us. I saw her glance towards Kaia, maybe checking if she'd seen the kiss. Whatever Celeste saw when she looked satisfied her, because she turned back to me and her lips were curling up into an involuntary smile.

"Damn, Celeste. I didn't know you were such a good kisser," I said in a voice I realized could have been quieter. If we were really girlfriends, of course we'd have kissed before.

She didn't panic, though, just maneuvered me around so she could scan the party again. When the guests seemed engrossed in their own conversations, she focused back on me.
