LOVE THE LORD AND EACH OTHER

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the gift of love. We can have it all in this life—fame, fortune, power, respect, admiration, friendship, family, joy, laughter—in fact, we can have everything the world offers and all the heart craves, yet, without love, we have nothing. Without You, we have nothing. Apart from You and Your love, life is vacant and our souls are void of purpose and meaning. Lord, You are love. Without You, love does not exist. Therefore, we cannot experience true, trustworthy, authentic love apart from You.

Heavenly Father, anything that is worth a lot, costs a lot; and Your love for us cost You everything—Your Son’s very life. You loved us so much that You gave us Jesus, the greatest gift, the greatest sacrifice, Your one and only Son. Your love is sacrificial. Your love continuously gives. Through You, we see that love is a sacrifice; a continual giving of one’s self without any strings attached, without expectations or reciprocation.

The world and the culture we live in try to redefine love in ways that are contrary to what You created it to be. If the world’s selfish kind of love (which is not love at all) has jaded my daughter and her fiancé’s understanding of love in any way, please, Lord, help them to see through the lies and fully embrace Your truth.

God, don’t let the spirit of the world or the lust of the flesh seep into their understanding and dilute the reality of Your perfect, unconditional love. ________ and ________ cannot know or experience love unless Your love abides in them and prevails over all else. Please, God, never let either of them be content with just knowing about Your love. Instead, grant them a hunger, thirst, and passion to intimately know Your love in all its fullness. They cannot love You, themselves, each other, or others unless they have received the love that You have for them.

Today I pray that my daughter and her fiancé’s hearts and minds would be filled to overflowing with a greater understanding of the breadth and depth of Your boundless love. To the greatest extent possible this side of eternity, bless them with an unrivaled intimacy with You that results in them experiencing love in such a profound way that they will never be the same.

Father, I pray that Your immeasurable, all-consuming love would define who my daughter and her fiancé are so that they will never search for love or satisfaction anywhere else. Because this young couple’s hearts are filled to overflowing with Your love, I pray that their love would abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight. Let Your everlasting love pour forth from their lives, so that every life they touch is changed and drawn to You.

Lord, I pray that from this moment on, You will be ________ and ________’s first love. When other “loves” try to entice them away from You, please draw them back to Your heart where there is protection and safety.
