Choose Easy

If you decide to practice and review one or two passages using Anki, let's make sure that they are appropriate for your level. If you select contexts with four or more unknown words altogether, it’s still very much possible to break down all the vocabulary and grammar. Yet if you are repeatedly encountering these difficult passages from your high frequency word list, you may want to consider skipping a few of them. Too many new words, phrases, and grammar points can raise numerous questions to look up and make the learning process slow-paced and tedious.

These types of passages can lead to frustrating Anki exercises. When the difficulty level is set too high in Anki and also in general, it can cause your interest to wane and take the enjoyment out of learning and practicing Portuguese.

Choosing easy can make learning Portuguese so much more fun and even addictive. Choosing contexts with just one, two, or three new words allows learning to happen seemingly at a faster pace. When the level of the challenge before us is set at just the right level, we can enter a flow-like state where our learning becomes much more pleasurable and satisfying.
