"Thanks for sticking up for me in there." Charlotte hurried along beside Lilly, as the classroom emptied out. "Larry was just being a freak, the thing about me being gay."

"I stick up for my friends. You can like girls if you want, that's your business."

"I have a boyfriend. Cooper and I are still trying to figure it out," Charlotte muttered. She realized she wanted nothing more than to drag the redhead into the nearest dark corner and see if her lips tasted as good as she had always imagined. That would have to be the janitor's closet. She snickered at the joke in her head.

"What's funny?" Lilly asked.

"What you said to Larry. He about pissed himself."

"I could make his life miserable if I wanted to. I have my ways."

"Yeah, well thanks for sticking up for me anyway."

"Kind of shitty what Chrissy did, outing you like that at the party."

"She thought she was being funny, and she was drunk. She's dealing with a lot of stuff. Her parents suck. They're too busy working and partying themselves to be parents."

"Yeah, parents, who needs 'em?" Lilly laughed.

"Mine are cool most of the time. My Mom teaches the Art class here, and my Dad teaches English over at the Community College."

"Teachers' kid? They've got you trained. I do what I want mostly. My Dad was convinced I'd be playing in the pros, until I blew out the knee. He took it a lot harder than I did."

"Bummer though, not doing something you love."

"Truth is, I didn't love it all that much. It got to be a lot of work. My Dad kept pushing me, telling me it was my ticket to a big college. It turned out to be his ticket. At least he got a good job out of the deal. I got a nasty scar."

"Yeah, parents. My mom is sneaky about it. She guilts me into doing things, or not."

"Like getting wasted at the party? You were pretty sober when I talked to you, not like Chrissy."

"She was really upset about Steven being with that sophomore. She got carried away."

"Yeah, Prom night, teen drama, I get it. Where's 304? I have Chemistry."

"Other way, take a left. See you at lunch? My break's at 11:45."

"Later, Sweetie." Lilly stopped and cocked her head. "You know what I meant."

"Yeah I know." Charlotte nodded. "We're not gay."

The redhead grinned and walked away.

"Not gay," She mumbled to herself as she watched Lilly sway down the hallway. "Keep telling yourself that, Charlotte. Of all places, why in the hell did she have to show up at my school?"
