Chapter 10

Pierce couldn’t stop himself from bouncing. His first group hunt! He’d never thought he’d actually get the chance to go on a pack hunt. But there he was, waiting for the Alpha to address the pack before they could shift.

He was aware his friends, and even some of his neighbors, watched him with amused smiles, but nothing would dampen his excitement about getting to run wild for a few hours.

Except if he had to kill something. He wasn’t exactly sure he could do that.

“Hey,” Gavin said next to him, wrapping his fingers around Pierce’s wrist. “Don’t worry about it, okay? No one said you have to actually hunt. Just relax and have fun.”

Gavin’s low, husky voice soothed him, and the gentle touch on his wrist had him melting against the big body. “Kay,” he said almost breathlessly.

Declan stood up at the other end of the clearing and cleared his throat. Instantly, the pack silenced. “We’re waiting for Shea to get back and then we’ll start. I have a few things to chat about before we all shift, so hang in there a little longer.”

The Alpha wrapped his arm around Quinn’s shoulder and bent down, clearly whispering in the wolf Omega’s ear. “I’m surprised Declan’s letting Quinn out of the house,” he said to Trina, who stood next to Caleb.

Trina smiled and leaned into Caleb a little. “Quinn doesn’t do well when he’s cooped up. Declan knows that, but he also trusts Adam, Cullen and himself to keep Quinn safe.”

He nodded thoughtfully. He knew a little of Quinn’s story. He guessed if he had been locked in an attic and abused, he would have issues being confined too. A prison, no matter how nice or big it was, was still a prison, after all.

“Besides,” Trina continued. “Quinn is not a wolf you want to mess with.”

Pierce listened in awe as she told him about how a still recovering Quinn stood between her and his abusive cousin so she wouldn’t get hurt. “That should have tipped us all off about the Omega thing,” she said. “There was no way a submissive wolf could have stood up to such a dominant wolf like that.”

Pierce had never thought about what he would do if someone threatened his friends or his loved ones. He would do anything in his power to help them, though, so he probably would put himself in harm’s way to make sure his friends weren’t hurt.

We would do far more than that, his tiger answered.

Pierce rolled his eyes. It was always so weird when his tiger decided to talk to him instead of sending him his general emotions. He felt like he needed to speak out loud for his tiger to hear him when he answered, which was not the case, and besides, he would look odd if he was talking to himself.

We would tear out the throats of those who dared to hurt our friends. The only reason we did not in the parking lot is because we had not had time to shift.
