"So you want me to what... stop you from being haunted?" Ari gives me a perplex look. "What kind of spirits are haunting you, anyway?"

I haven't told the resident Blue Phoenix, former witch and current spirit speaker, that I'm dealing with seven trapped immortals. Somehow I doubt she'll understand—and other than me, she's the weirdest student here, with a terrible family to rival mine.

Apparently her dad killed her.

Yeah, mine did a lot of shit, but never that.

"So, I can't really explain everything." Ari shoots me an irritated look, and I can't blame her. I'm irritating myself with all my vague bullshit. "I just need you to like—figure out a way to keep them from invading my dreams or something. Like a dreamcatcher?"

"I'm not Native American." But a thoughtful expression crosses her face. "There are witch spells—traditions to prevent haunting and encourage restful sleep. One of them may help here."

"Whatever you've got, I want it. Give me that good shit." Realizing that I sound like a drug addict, I add, "I mean, I just want some sleep. Midterms are coming up soon, after all. And Group Combat..."

"Say no more." Ari pales just at the mention of the existence of Fisk's torturous class. "There's a spell I can do, but it requires a new moon, and we're days away from that. In the meantime I'll see if I can brew a potion to help you sleep at night—one that wards spiritual energy."

"Thank you."

"I just need my tools, and..."

Her attention drifts off, over my shoulder. We're talking on the path outside her dorm, just near the woods that fill empty places of the campus—not an entirely private area, but the best I could find to flag her down. Glancing over my shoulder, I check to see what's got her so distracted.

It's those three shifters who brought her into campus, the ones who helped quell her madness magic when half the campus went wild from it. I know Quentin, the panther shifter who has officially taken Petra's job as the headmaster's assistant, and Reggie, his twin who doesn't wear glasses. But the third, David, is practically a stranger to me; other than his connection to Ari, I know nothing about him.

Except that she's clearly into him. Into all three of them, I notice as she shoots longing glances in their direction, turns red—an odd color to go with her blue hair—and abruptly looks away. There's a worried expression on her face.

I can figure out pretty easily what she's worried about: juggling three dicks at once. It's a hard job, but a phoenix can do it, if she's game. We die and come back to life—what's an extra erection or two next to that sort of challenge? Nothing, I tell you.

"So, those are your what," I glance at Ari, "your version of my demons or something?"

"What? No! We're not—it's not like that." She turns beet red. "The twins and David are just helping me with my magic because it doesn't affect them the same way it affects other shifters.
