7. Abductions, Local and Nationwide

Travis Walton was snatched from the Apache Sitgreaves National Forest, near Heber, Arizona, USA.

There is a legend spoken of in the USA concerning the Jicarilla Apache and published in 1898 by J. A. F. L. ‘When the Apache emerged from the underworld...’

Another legend, related in the book Indians of Arizona, published by Houghton, 1929, states that ‘The first people (Apache) emerged from a cloud, in this cloud were lights like rainbows.’

In 1953 at Crick, a village in Northamptonshire, several villagers, all now sadly dead, witnessed a UFO on the A428, which runs from Crick into Rugby and passes the Rugby Radio Station. This transmitting station was dismantled in 2006, when all twelve masts were considered to be of no further use.

Kilsby Lane runs between the villages of Kilsby and Crick not far from the border of Warwickshire. Travelling along this lane, enjoying the lush green landscape, my husband, John, and I witnessed something that we will never forget.

All of a sudden the sky darkened and we were under a very large shadow. There was not a cloud in sight, but nonetheless a dark shadow covered the entire car. Looking up and in front of the car, we saw to our amazement an enormous black triangle not 100 metres above us moving slightly upwards at a steep angle. It was so wide that it almost touched the hedges on both sides of the road. No sound was emitted from the craft, but a sort of vapour trail came from the back or under the triangular shape. I thought it was about to crash into the field on my left, but it hovered with the underside towards us. There were no markings that I remember; I think it was smooth underneath. We (my husband and I) had our photograph taken under the Concorde before we flew in it, and that had an undercarriage, but I saw on the triangle only a smooth surface. I cursed the fact that we did not have a camera with us to record this unusual incident. After a couple of seconds it shot almost vertically into the clear sky and as there were no clouds we could see it clearly as it shot away at an incredible speed. From hovering to disappearing took only seconds and we wondered what we had seen.

Arriving home, I wrote down a description and John verified it. Then we tuned into the local radio to find out if anyone else had seen this UFO, but no one had reported it. Of course people do not want to be identified with anything extraterrestrial because they are often thought to be imagining things.

After I had made a telephone call to the late Graham Birdsall of UFO Magazine he suggested that I write my experience down as an article for the magazine. Also I drew a blank from local newspapers. Although silent, the craft may have been seen shooting away leaving a greyish vapour trail, unless we were meant to be the only witnesses.
