NO MORE ANXIETY

Remaining anxious or habitually worrying about things is not what God wants for you. The New Testament makes it clear that you are to be anxious about nothing because it doesn’t change the outcome, it harms your spiritual life, and God has promised to take care of you always.

The New Testament also provides steps by which you can overcome anxiety and worry. Those steps include taking control of your thinking, focusing outside yourself and on God’s kingdom, practicing gratitude, and choosing to find rest for your spirit, soul, and body. In your imagination, or symbolically, take your anxiety and worry and throw it onto Jesus. His shoulders are big enough to carry it—and you.

QUESTIONS FOR CONTEMPLATION AND DISCUSSION

1. Are you worrying about anything that you cannot change? How has that affected you?

2. What thoughts could you choose to think in place of your worrying?

3. What would it mean for you to cast (throw) your worry onto Jesus?

4. Write or draw something that symbolizes your worry; then throw that paper into a river or leave it at the altar at your church to symbolize casting your worry onto Jesus.
