I nodded yes then dialed as Keyshia watched me and said, “What is a big time man like you doing with such cheap cell phone service? Lots of people come out this way and their cell phones don't work. You need to switch to a better carrier. Get rid of that crummy service you have. What if you were stuck out here and your stuff did not work? That could put you in an awful situation.”

“Still no answer.” I looked at the device. Keyshia reached for her cell phone. She took it from my hand.

“Who are you trying to call?”

“My assistant.”

“Assistant! I knew I was right about you. You are big time. You have an assistant. That means you are real big time. You have plenty of money.”

“I was hoping my assistant could help me out a bit. But still no luck.” I stood still for a moment then looked Keyshia in the eyes and said, “Thank you.”

“Sorry I could not be of any more help to you. And her stylist isn't here tonight. She had other plans for the weekend. She took a trip. A much needed vacation. It can be difficult satisfying so many women. You know women can get crazy. They can get real crazy when it comes down to their hair. But usually she's here. We stay here late every Friday night. Sometimes we book into early Saturday morning. City workers like to get their styles cared for on the weekend.”

“I guess I had better gas up and get on back home then. I have made little progress trying to find her. Where's the nearest gas station?”

“Right down the street. It's easy to get there. From the parking lot, make a left. It's just a couple of miles down the road on the left. That's Mr. Earl's place. You can't miss his place. He will be drinking.” Keyshia laughed very loudly. And he will be eating or chewing on something. You cannot miss his place. Please tell Mr. Earl I said hi.”

“Okay.” I was about to leave when Keyshia spoke again.

“And I can tell the receptionist was upset with you,” Keyshia mentioned. “Just smile at her and tell her something nice on your way out. That will take care of that. She will smile then. And I know she will remember you as that nice white man who was looking for her.”

I thought about the heart that was drawn on the folder. Then I smiled at Keyshia. I knew Keyshia was right. “I will do that,” I said.

“By the way, What's your name? Keyshia asked.

“Able. Able Murray.”

“Nice to meet you, Mr. Able.” Keyshia extended her hand. We had a slight shake. “Mr. Able.” She paused. “Now just remember. Be nice on your way out.”

“Thank you for the advice. I promise to say something really nice to the receptionist when I leave.” Nothing was difficult about the task Keyshia had assigned me. The receptionist had many fine qualities. Her voice was most charming so I'd made up my mind to thank her for getting Keyshia for me and give her a compliment on her voice.
