I wasn’t hated for my skin color; my skin color just made it easier for others to see that I was an outsider. Some of the people in Archelaos had ancestors from my tribe, but after the war, outsiders, no matter the complexions, made everyone worried.

He gave me a look I could not identify when I mentioned that. I told him how eventually, the hatred was more of a pity, and it wasn't till I came to the castle that the hatred of being an outsider started again. He apologized for that.

I told him about my encounters with some of the gentlemen in my village but stopped when I noticed his anger. I teased him all night for that jealousy.
