Lock 11, or Quarry Lock, still sits along Ohio Route 800, about a mile south of Dover Dam. A log-cabin restaurant atop the lock characterized Lock 11 for years, but this structure has been removed. This period postcard of the lock is titled “Ohio Canal, Cleveland, O.,” a glaring misattribution. (CSO.)

Another lock was situated along Ohio Route 800 north of Dover, but it is no longer there. This is Lock 12, or Jones Lock. A property owner living in the lock tender’s house in the 1930s grew tired of hauling coal in a wheelbarrow across the rickety bridge over the lock chamber, so he told his wife, “Let’s blow that sucker up and fill it with dirt!” (UA-Baus.)
