Chapter Fourteen

Nyx woke up to find Talon leaning over her.

“I know,” he told her. “Very few are fortunate enough to find me leaning over them. Sadly, for you, I’m just here to make sure you will live to see the sunrise.”

She smiled; she couldn’t help it. The brothers were growing on her. That was sort of gross because it made her think of bacteria or mildew.

“There are a few rules about going into the corridors. The biggest being don’t die. If you die, then King will get pissy and it messes up our day.”

“Got you,” she whispered.

“I knew I liked you for a reason. You’re going to be okay. Your throat will be sore and scratchy for a while, but considering what you went through, it could be worse.”

“Thank you.” Talon stopped to look at her giving her a genuine smile before leaving the room.

“Hey.” Blade was leaning against the wall watching her. He moved away and came to lie on the other side of the bed next to her.

“Other boy?”

“I got to him before any of the shadows came for him. He was just entering sleep. I removed the mark and replaced it with one of protection.”

She nodded, her eyes wanted to close, but she wanted to stay awake to take Blade in.

“You need to sleep. Tomorrow we will talk about tonight. Also, I think I earned second base seeing how I saved your life and all. Since you’re not up to it and you can’t tell me the story of the ages, you get to sleep in my arms. I know how grateful you are. It’s my pleasure. Close those eyes and sleep.”

A smile curled her lips before her eyes closed and normal sleep called to her.
