Wisdom Awaits Us

So where are the mothers for our generation? If you look closely, you will find glimpses of these mothers everywhere. Amazingly, you will find them in all age ranges as well. They are often waiting to be called upon. You will find them in homes, hosting television programs, writing articles and books, running successful corporations, holding government positions, teaching children, and administering health care. These are merely the jobs they do, but even in these positions I believe they hunger for more. They listen, awaiting the stirring of God’s Spirit.

What we look for will not come from resurrecting a surreal domestic image. The daughters of our time are not interested in watching us as we pretend to be perfect. Every human alive has made acquaintance with failure. These daughters look for something a bit more intimate than perfection. They want to know what we learned when we failed. They hope we will be brave enough to be honest, authentic, and wise with our words and life lessons. They hope we will strain the bitterness from our stories and present them as wine, laced with promise.

Wisdom has built her house; she has carved its seven columns. She has prepared a great banquet, mixed her wines, and set the table.
