In a surprising turn of events, the pain didn’t stay long. I was sensitive the next day, the spiraling and upset sort of echoing inside of me, but I could train and do what I needed to. A few days later it was gone, really nothing more than a burn that healed and was a bit tender to the touch.

The pain and crazy had been so bad I’d expected more than that so yeah, I’d take a break for once. Especially when there was an extreme pain I was already dealing with that made it clear he wasn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Irma had made me promise to load up on fae food at least once a day going forward or she would stop feeding me forever. She won. The woman who controlled my life, um, my stomach, got what she wanted.

The morning I went to load up after I was finally feeling better, Izzy was brimming with worry and energy. I swallowed a sigh and slapped on the best smile I could.

“First, before you get upset, as your bestie, I’m upset we’re not spending more time together,” she blurted. “I was going to talk to you about that this morning, and I was worried all night it was too much to ask. But you’re letting Darby take your pictures. That’s our thing. Love me too and teleport me to the top of a mountain so I can take cool fucking shots!”

Wow, she had really been holding that back.

“I was planning to.” I nodded when she did a double take. “I swear it, Izzy. I just needed a bit of space and to breathe. I have to get a ton of training done or I won’t get all the magic I should. I’ve been doing better with my wings and don’t feel like I’m going to magically explode over everyone always. I was going to ask you to hang and help me. Do some shopping too.”

She let out a huge rush of air. “Okay, good. Just promise before I show you the second thing.”

“Scout’s honor,” I promised as I held up two fingers. I wasn’t sure that was even the right thing to do. Whatever. “What’s up?”

“Dr. Craftsman made a supe video account too,” she muttered. “He posted his first video last night and it’s already a thing. Like seriously everywhere.”

The sigh I let out could have been heard across the globe, but it was better than the growl I was feeling. Maybe?

I accepted the phone from her and sat at the counter. It was my turn to let out a long breath and then I tapped it to play.

Then I immediately paused it and looked away. Even seeing him hurt.

He was so godsdamn handsome though. I finally looked back and stared at him with the video paused. His deep emerald eyes shined with so many emotions it was probably difficult for anyone who knew him to see. His dark blond hair was longer now and had fucking sexy curls that I hated because I loved them, and so did tons of others.
