The Witch-Boyfriend

We kissed outside my apartment. Lynn gently ran a hand through my hair. “I’ll see you tomorrow,” she said. “Assuming no big crisis. But I’ll definitely stop by for a moment if that’s all I can do.”

I squeezed her hand. “That’s enough.”

Lynn smiled wider and kissed me on the cheek. “Tomorrow. We’ll have most of the day off.”

“Tomorrow,” I agreed. Then I saw the tears in her eyes. “Lynn? You’re crying.”

“I haven’t been this happy in nine years, dear. One more.” We kissed goodbye. “See ya! Ikimashou." She snapped her fingers and was gone.

I walked inside and sat in my recliner. It was midnight, but I didn’t feel sleepy in the slightest. Not only had I never been this happy in nine years, I had never been this happy before at all.

“Thanks, God,” I said out loud. “I… I don’t deserve this.”

Should I pray more? Take up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the Lord? Nothing I could do seemed equal to the gift God had given me in Lynn.

I needed to tell everyone. But I probably should avoid making the news until Lynn was ready. She probably wanted to announce it publicly.

I sat back, and the only thing I could think of was Lynn’s overjoyed smile. The smell of her perfume. Her kisses.

You know, I really should pray for her, that was what I should do. I got out my rosary and crossed myself with the crucifix.
