I was probably borrowing trouble, but I wanted to test the waters. I needed to know if Abigail had told Charlie about what happened. I was hoping to have a buffer if he decided he was going to kick my ass. I changed into my gym clothes, hung my suit for work over my arm, and headed to the gym.

Charlie was wiping down a machine when I walked in. “Hey!” he greeted.

I waited. It didn’t sound like the kind of greeting that preceded an ass-kicking. “Hey, yourself.”

“Where’ve you been?” he asked. “I thought you were coming in Saturday morning for that group class.”

He didn’t know where I was, which meant Abigail hadn’t told him anything. I was oddly relieved. “I had a business meeting out of town.”

He looked me up and down and I was certain I was wearing some sign that announced what I had done with his little sister. I hoped that wasn’t the case, but I wasn’t entirely confident. I felt different. I woke up this morning and felt like a man reborn.

“Look at you. You’re glowing.” He clapped me on the shoulder. “You little slut.”

I shrugged away from him. “What? Shut up, weirdo.”

He laughed. “You got some action.”

“I just got a little sun.”

“There’s a dead giveaway.” He pointed at my neck.

I reached up and cupped the spot on my neck. I had noticed it, but I didn’t think it was that obvious. There were some nail marks on my back, which was why I made sure to wear a T-shirt instead of going shirtless. “It was a good weekend,” I said.

“Well, if you’re not too worn out, let’s hit it,” he said and punched me lightly on the arm.

“My body is yours to mold,” I said.

I spent the next hour getting my ass kicked in a good way. After missing a few days at the gym, it felt good to bust ass. I was sweating like a pig. My muscles were twitching and tingling. It was the best feeling in the world. I quickly showered and dressed for work feeling good. I felt like I could tackle the world.

I had just sat down when Scott popped into my office. He was grinning like an idiot. “I saw the listings,” he said. “Amazing. Any hits?”

“I just sat down.”

“I got an offer on one of the properties on Saturday,” he said. “The seller countered. We should hear back today.”

“Thanks for handling that for me,” I said.

“How was your weekend?” he asked.

“Good. Really good.”

“Yeah, you look—” He shook his head. “Never mind.”

I frowned. “No, tell me.”

He shrugged. “I was gonna say you look healthy, but that’s a weird thing to tell another man, right?”

I shook my head. “Would you say I look like I’m glowing?”

Scott’s eyes lit up and he pointed at me. “Yes, dude, exactly.”

I sighed. “I just got some sun.”

He sat down across from me. “Good for you. I took some time to look over your other listings. I sent you an email.”

“You want more changes?” I asked.
