THE MYSTERY

OF PRAYING

IN THE SPIRIT

I was worshiping one morning in church when the Holy Spirit spoke to me and said that someone there had lost a piece of jewelry. Our church was still small, about 150 members at the time. So I told the congregation what the Lord had said to me and asked if someone had lost some jewelry. I was surprised when my daughter Amy raised her hand. Since it was Amy, I simply told her that I would talk to her about it after church. When we sat down to lunch, I asked Amy about the jewelry she was missing. She reached into her pocket and pulled out a pearl drop earring and said that she had wanted to wear those pearl earrings that morning, but could not find the other one, although she had checked everywhere. At the time Amy was about 12 years old, and those earrings were very special to her. Amazingly, God had shown me a picture of a pearl drop earring during worship and also where it was. I was excited to tell Amy that the Lord had shown me where the earring was—in the television cabinet at home. When we got home, Amy and I went to the television cabinet and looked through it, but could not find the earring there. Later in the afternoon, as I was sitting at my desk, I kept thinking about that television cabinet. Finally, I called out and said, “Amy, I know what I saw, and I am sure that the earring has to be there. We just need to check it again.” So we went back to the television cabinet, and this time we took the television and everything out of it. There in the very back, behind the television, we found the lost pearl drop earring.

We rejoiced that we had it back, and I was so thankful that I was able to demonstrate to my daughter how the Kingdom operates. I had tapped into our secret weapon to discover the mystery of where the earring was hidden. God cares about everything, including a little girl’s earring. But He was using that moment to teach me and reaffirm how He will help me with the things I do not know. It is through the use of the Church’s secret weapon—praying in the Spirit. As we follow the leading of the Spirit of God and pray in the Spirit, we can walk in victory and get things done that previously seemed impossible. Drenda and I have done everything we have done by using this principle. Let me give you another example from our lives.

Drenda and I lived in a small farmhouse for a number of years. And as I told you, those years were hard years, before I learned how the Kingdom of God operates. Once we plugged into the Kingdom and got completely out of debt, we began saving money to build a house. We had about $100,000 in the bank, but we were just waiting to save more money before we really began to look for land.
