Habits of Success to Follow
The biggest step to take as a minimalist is to stop meaningless purchases. Right now, make a promise to yourself that you are not going to buy anything you do not need. Do not say, âOh, Iâll start my new shopping habits next week.â You know what is going to happen? Next week is going to come around and thereâll be a sale you just canât resist, so then you will say again, âOh, Iâll start my new shopping habits next week.â Then it is the third week and there is another reason why you canât start your new journey. Do not put this process off. If living a more clear-minded, simple life sounds interesting to you at all, then remember youâre going to have to stop your bad habits right in this moment. You canât expect to have a positive change from a consistent lifestyle that has not been working for you already.
Next, go through your stuff and choose what should be kept versus tossed. This does not have to be done rapidly, and you should make sure youâre going at your own pace and at a speed youâre comfortable with in order to make sure that you do not end up making yourself miserable. If you start off really hard and make yourself really unhappy from the beginning, youâre going to come to hate minimalism!
Do you know why people always struggle to diet or exercise? They think they can just start right away with the habits of someone that is been dieting and exercising for years. If going to McDonaldâs and 7-11 is a regular thing, you canât just stop going one week and force yourself to eat kale salads even though you hate kale. The important thing to remember is that it might be a gradual process.
Cold turkey works for some people, but do not feel bad if youâre not âsome people.â If you torture yourself with minimalism, you will grow to hate it just like how someone that tries to extreme diet will grow to hate kale.
To keep up with this, throw things away right away if you do end up buying them. Keep receipts around so that you can return things if you have a slip-up. Sit on a purchase for a couple of days if you must, questioning if youâre actually happier or more fulfilled now that you made that purchase in the first place.
