Chapter 6

They arrived at Trevor’s house and the former demon king welcomed them inside. “I knew that it would be a matter of time until you gave in,” he said, glancing at Michael holding Jason’s hand.

Michael was surprised that his uncle didn’t laugh. “I’ll go straight to the point. Jason agreed to move to Centura with me if he sees that he can find a job and live here,” he explained. “I’d like to know if you can have him work at the Centus institution.”

Trevor raised a brow for a moment and switched his attention to Jason. “Is he good with kids?” He pursed his lips when Jason nodded firmly. Trevor looked back at Michael. “I’ll see what I can do. But I advise you to do something. Your mate needs a Centus to protect him, just like the human king we have now.”

Michael looked down. He didn’t want anyone to protect Jason but himself, but he’d been far away when Jason had been alone and harassed by Tinn. If a Centus were to stay by Jason’s side, that could’ve been prevented.

“I have a suggestion,” Trevor said. “If you promise me that you’ll put up a fight against Lucian in the next elections, I will get your mate the best Centus that I can find.”

“What?” Michael uttered, staring at his uncle. “Why would you want me to try to win against your son?”

Trevor chuckled briefly. “Many demons saw how easily Lucian won and they think that they can run against him as well. If that happens, we have no idea which family will join the two of ours and what values they’re going to bring if they vote for them. We can’t take that risk.”

He had a point. Both of their families had been ruling Centura for as long as he could remember. If someone else brought other ideas, possibly destructive ideas, Centura would be in trouble. What they’d worked so hard for could crumble like a castle of cards.

“What if I end up winning?”

Trevor rested his hand on Michael’s shoulder. “Then it’s because you deserve it. As much of a pain in the ass you can be most of the time, you’re still someone who cares about Centura, and I trust you completely.”

Michael smiled slightly. He’d never thought that his uncle would praise him like this. “I’ll try my best next time then.”

“If that’s so, I have a volunteer right here,” Trevor said with excitement in his voice and motioned behind him, stepping out of the way.

“What the hell?” Jason uttered, and let his mouth fall open.

Michael narrowed his eyes. “Alexis?” he asked in disbelief. “Isn’t he too busy to volunteer to help a human?”

The large centaur approached them, the hooves creating loud thuds against the carpet. His strong torso intimidated anyone. He was the ruler of centaurs and the largest to ever exist, a mix between a female centaur and a male minotaur. On top of that, he was a scientist in search of the remedy that would help his kind turn their horse body into a human extension of their bodies.
