Chapter 11

Michael shifted restlessly in his seat, anxious to get on with his day. Well, not really. Instead, he was ready to fill his day with all kinds of pointless shit just to get his mind off a certain lawyer. He’d planned to clean his place from top to bottom, see if he could sweet talk Shannon into making him some meals he could throw in the freezer and then work out until he dropped from exhaustion.

Instead, he sat on the floor in Declan and Quinn’s basement, waiting for the meeting to start.

He took a quick scan of the room. Almost every pack member was there, excluding Adam, who had a shift at the fire station, and Shea, who had a shift at the police station. Even Gray, Shannon, and the girls, along with their bodyguards, were present. Hope clung to Shannon, Faith gnawed on Gray’s shoulder, and Honor was in the corner, reading a book with some of the other pups. Even Pierce and his tiger guards had made it.

Quinn was in his element, chatting animatedly with the adults while the pups crawled all over him.

Gray ambled over and plopped down next to him, setting the baby on her feet so she could toddle around. “What’s up, man? It’s been a while.”

It had, and Michael regretted it. Gray had Shannon and the girls to occupy his free time now, and Michael had sort of avoided his friend since he’d gotten together with the tiger.

He was genuinely happy for his friend. Gray was a nice guy and deserved all the happiness in the world. And Shannon turned out to be just what Gray needed in a mate. Someone strong enough so Gray didn’t have to be so strong all the time.

He was sort of jealous of the bond Gray shared with his mate. Okay, he wasn’t sort of jealous. He was ridiculously jealous. Hell, all the mated couples in the pack made him jealous.

And yet, he couldn’t stop himself from pushing away the one man who might actually put up with him.

Michael shook his head to clear it of the unwanted thought and focused on Gray. “Not too much,” he said, answering Gray’s question. “Work, exercising, sleeping…”

“Having sex with a hot lawyer…” Gray responded in a soft whisper. The nurse grinned at him, waggling his eyebrows salaciously.

“God, Grayson. There are children here. And since when do you care about my sex life?” Michael whispered back, feeling heat rushing to his cheeks.

Gray laughed, long and hard. “The kids aren’t listening. And since you’re actually having sex, we have something to discuss. You are getting some, right? I mean, the way the two of you were looking each other over at dinner the other night had me thinking you guys would fall into bed instantly.”

Michael rubbed at the back of his neck, trying to think of something to say. Before he could actually decide on his words, the truth came tumbling out. “We slept together once. And we messed around in his office a couple of days ago.
