CHAPTER 12:
SHE”S THE MAN
I entered into the game head first. I started spending more time away from home. My son spent more time with his grandparents and aunt. I managed to give him everything, but mommy was the man. She had an empire to run. I could not have Nicholas around that part of my life. He was more advanced than most kids his age. He picked things up very well. I was head of one of the most profitable coke empires in the city. We had Chicago on lock, but it was not the fact that we had our city sewed that made us legends. It was the fact that our hand extended outside of Route I-57. We moved into uncharted territory, like Ohio, North Carolina, Virginia, Atlanta, Houston, Oklahoma City, and Los Angeles.
For years, Reggie had a very prominent connect from Colombia. That connect managed to keep them rich. I knew that we would make more money if we secured other connects that offered a purer grade of coke than we would were getting from the Columbians. Besides, it was normal for most dealers to be connected with Columbians. We were known for running the streets with a different set of rules and tactics. Why not have various connects as well? I was respectful. Just because I was the head of my sector, I could not go about changing shit up without getting the ok from the man that made it all possible.
I told Reggie that I wanted to go to Miami. I wanted to meet with the connects from Peru and Nicaragua. From there, to New Jersey to meet with the Italian connects out of Sicily. I always had my plans mapped out thoroughly. When I presented something to Reggie, it was hard for him to turn me down. After I presented my case to Reggie about the connects, he gave me the ok. He told me to not agree to anything right away. He said to talk and get a feel for them, to trust my instincts. He said that my instincts were the most important thing in this game.
The second I went against them, I would be fucked in the game. He said to not talk business the first day. To let them show me a good time so I could get a feel of them and what their angle was and if everything is a go after a couple of days than start the negotiations. He told me to not walk in there blind-sided. He knew I could secure connects that would make us more money than we could ever imagine. I had been so busy running the streets that I was forgetting to spend time with my son. I missed him terribly. I decided I would spend the day with him. No coke, no crew, no phones- just me and my little man. I went to Candice’s house to pick him up after my meeting with Reggie.
When I walked in, he ran and jumped in my arms.
