The minute I leave Raven, she’s all I can think about, even though I tell myself she’s far safer where she is, away from harm and the ravages of the shifters and who knows what else we may run into on our hunt for Isala. Still, the need to have her by my side persists.

Terrence, Clay, Silver and Lucas are congregated in the dungeon, talking about what the bastard shifter revealed. The long-rumored sanctuary, a secret most thought was folklore, handed down from generation to generation. I bet the witches never dreamed their secret hideaway would be used by the consigliere to the vampires, or that a mangy shifter would know of its existence. A shifter that should have stayed with his leader and not left him for idle promises of power that will never come to fruition. Sheba was and is still the leader that will take the shifters further in the underworld than anyone else. A purebred with great leadership skills and ability to get along with all the factions to ensure his and his shifters’ position in the world. Someone well respected.

Until the defection of many of the pack to the side of the rogues, who are greedy for power and think they can rule the underworld one day, because someone has instilled that in their minds. It seems that every time we peel another layer, we find something more that Isala has done.

“We have the information we need,” I tell the team. “As soon as it gets dark tonight, we’ll head out. In the meantime, we rest. I’ll bring Darius, Marcus and Troy up to speed on where we’re going. We’re going to want a lay of the land before we leave. Silver, Terrence and Clay, do you want to stay with Lucas and—”

A flurry of light illuminates the dimness of the dungeon, and Lucianna appears, accompanied by a woman with vibrant purple hair, wearing a cropped top, short skirt, and thigh-high boots. “Gentleman, good to see you’re all getting to know each other. Allow me to introduce my friend Embry. She’s just been inducted into the special forces team. She has multiple skills that you’ll find complement your own. She’ll be assisting you to find Isala.”

A low growl comes from Lucas, his eyes glowing, faintly tinged with red, as if he’s fighting his inner beast to keep it under control. “What the hell are you doing here, Embry.”

Her eyes flash. “I don’t recall having to ask your permission for anything, Lucas. While you’ve been off doing your thing, I’ve been training hard. Lucianna and the others think I’m ready to be a valuable member of the special forces team. I’m not going to pass up an opportunity to do something worthwhile for the vampires just because I might run into the likes of you.”

His eyes flash deep bright red. “You don’t have combat training. The special forces are going to end up in the middle of an all-out war if it breaks out, and the rogue shifters are mean fucking bastards.
