“Semaj, please come here,” Valentina announced, catching her before she had left the house.

Semaj was on her way to meet up with Vikingo, who had invited her to have dinner with him in town. They were becoming closer each day, and the Espriella family was also beginning to embrace her more. This was going to be her first trip off the compound since she’d been there, and being as though this was her day off she was planning on enjoying it to the utmost before having to go back to work after the weekend. She didn’t have any idea what Valentina wanted and hoped that whatever it was could wait. “Yes?” she answered as she entered the living room where Valentina was standing and playing with her bird through the cage.

“Have a seat,” she said, not even turning to look at her. “I want you to travel to Miami with Jorge. The Haitians are looking for a new supplier and I want you to negotiate a deal on my behalf. Your uncle will fill you in on everything when you get there. Do we understand each other?” she asked in more of a demanding way while still not taking her eyes off the bird.

Semaj understood her very clearly. Whatever Valentina asked her to do at this point was pretty much getting done, no questions asked. Through everything she had schooled Semaj on about the drug game, making a deal with the Haitians didn’t sound that bad. Plus, it was going to give Semaj the opportunity to show her negotiating skills. They were going to be needed if she was going to last under the Espriella roof, even if she was the long lost granddaughter.
