Scott thought he was a decent tracker, or at least he’d thought so until recently. No matter how hard he tried, he wasn’t able to find anything, not even a hint of scent belonging to shifters who didn’t belong. He’d even given up and had sniffed Lenny while he was in tiger form, just to make sure he couldn’t get something, anything that would help them.

The result of that had been Lenny rolling around with laughter. At least that had ended when Scott tried biting off Lenny’s nose.

“You know, you didn’t have to bite me,” Lenny complained again as they walked.

Scott trotted by his side, stopping every now and then to sniff at a tree or at leaves. He huffed, hoping the message would get by—I don’t care.

Lenny rubbed his nose. “I mean, I get why you’re so testy. Mael stayed behind with Muirgeh. I’d be worried too.”

Scott rolled his eyes. He couldn’t tell Lenny he wasn’t worried anymore since he was in his tiger form, but it wouldn’t have been a lie. There was still an inkling of worry, but he didn’t think he could get rid of it easily or fast, not in the situation they were in.

But he believed Mael when he said there was no way he was getting back with Muirgeh, and the chat he’d had with Muirgeh had helped, too. Scott had watched the two as much as he could without being caught, and while they were friendly with each other, that really was all there was to it.

Muirgeh hadn’t tried to touch Mael, hadn’t tried to talk to him in private.

The fact that he watched for that made Scott feel like a jerk, but he thought he probably had a bit of an excuse, what with Liam dumping him for his ex and everything. He couldn’t help being insecure, especially considering his relationship with Mael was so new.

The evening before had been painful and had shown how uncomfortable they were with each other. Muirgeh had put them in the same bedroom, and they’d had to share a bed. Scott had shared beds with plenty of people, including Lenny, and things had never been as awkward.

He and Mael had slept on opposite sides of the bed, so close to the edge Scott had almost fallen on his face. They’d been careful not to touch, and when they’d woken up wrapped around each other, they’d both jumped apart as if they’d just been caught cheating or something.

It had been painful, and not at all like Scott. He might not be as smooth as Lenny liked to think he was, but he wasn’t usually that weird. Meeting your mate really made things different.

“So, did you have sex last night?” Lenny asked, and Scott pondered what would happen if he bit his best friend’s ass.

Would Lenny yell? Probably, and they couldn’t afford that, not since they needed to find those shifters. Why the hell was Lenny even asking stuff like that? Scott couldn’t answer.

Although that probably was the reason Lenny thought he could get away with it.
