Taylor was exhilarated by a sense of purpose as she moved from bench to bench, talking and laughing with the students, helping them where they needed help. They were a good group. With lots of banter and teasing, the room was charged with sexual energy. She had to give it to Margie, the group of friends she’d brought along to support the Academy were well considered. Margie loved matchmaking and on this occasion seemed to have got at least four matches right. She wondered if, by the end of the six weeks, any of them would still be together.

She kept sneaking glances at Kristin, wondering what had happened. She’d said it was work. She hoped that asshole they’d encountered on Friday night hadn’t caused problems. She glanced at the clock. Still another hour to go before she could pack up and drive Kristin home. As much as she was enjoying the class, part of her was willing it to end.

“OMG!” Margie declared as she took the first bite of an éclair. “These are better than sex.” She grinned. “No one tell Stacey I said that and actually, it’s probably not true.”

“I think it comes close,” Lee said, savoring a huge bite.

“I think we should combine the two,” Fran called out. Laughter rippled throughout the room.

“You two can do that later,” Taylor said. “For now everyone enjoy the spoils of your cooking. We might have to make this a hands-off environment from next week. And by that, I mean off each other, not the food.”

She grinned with delight as she watched the faces of the students as they sampled their éclairs. Some looked better than others, but from the reactions, the majority had got the choux pastry right, which was half the battle. She’d placed her creations on a dish and was offering them around as a comparison.

“So next week,” Taylor called out getting the class’ attention, “We’ll be working with fruit and learning to temper chocolate. White chocolate most likely, but I’ll see. I figure after our indulgence tonight, we’ll make at least half of the ingredients next week healthy. Feel free to box up any leftover éclairs your group has and take them home.” She surveyed the benches. “Not that there seem to be many left.”

She smiled and accepted the thanks and praise of many of the students as they left for the night. Kristin had hung back, and Kim and Fran were deep in conversation with Margie. Her wife, Stacy, was in India on a six-week yoga retreat which was partly why Margie had jumped at the opportunity to not only do the cooking class but to bring her friends. “I’m so lonely,” she heard her say. “I can’t believe that I used to function as my own person before Stace.”

“Come over for dinner one night next week,” Kim said. “I’m not working Wednesday through Friday so any of those nights would be good.”

“Except Thursday,” Taylor said joining the group. “You’ll be here don’t forget.” She turned to Kristin.
