I don't think, just react. I raise the gun and aim it at Kevin. I'm not sure that I've even hit him until he pitches back leaving Raiden open so that I can run to him. Before I reach him though Kevin is getting back up. I shoot again but miss the first shot. I raise my arm again, aim, close my eyes, and pray that I hit what I am aiming at. This time I do and it knocks Kevin back far enough I can finally go to Raiden.

I fall on my knees aware of the wet leaves underneath me and the smell of autumn and blood permeating the air. A sob is jerked out of me as I lay the gun down beside us. "Are you alright?"
