Rah

“This shit is real.” My brother’s demeanor humbled while he looked around his new place. The space we settled on was extremely nice and didn’t need much work to get it up and running. Based on his estimation he would be opening in about six months.

“Real as hell so don’t fuck it up.” My hand landed hard on his shoulder which brought his eyes back to me.

“I won’t. I promise I’m not going to let you down, Rah. Shit, I can’t.”

“No, you can’t. There’s a lot of money on the line, Leem.”

“Are you gonna keep doing that?”

“Doing what?”

“Reminding me how much you have invested in this?”

I cocked my head to the side, staring at him for a long moment. Was I doing that? Shit maybe I was. I simply needed him to understand the magnitude of what this deal meant. If he fucked up, I would lose my shop. I had to put it up for collateral to help him get the loan for this place.

“I just need you to understand…”

“How much you lose if I mess this up. Got it. Recorded, committed to memory, received one hundred and ten fucking percent. It’s like you want me to fail or something.”

“Why the hell would you say some dumb shit like that? I don’t want you to fail.”

“Are you sure?” He stared hard like he was waiting for me to convince him otherwise. As if his mind was made up that I did truly want him to fail.

Instead of verbalizing it right away, I pulled my brother into a tight hug and cuffed the back of his head. When I let him go, our eyes met. “I’m so proud of you, bruh. More than I thought I would ever be. I do not want you to fail. I know that you can do this. Since day one you’ve been on it proving that you can every step of the way. If anyone believes in you, I do. That doesn’t mean I don’t have reservations. Running a business is hard, especially building it from the ground up. I struggled and damn near quit a million times but it’s what I wanted so I stuck it out. That’s all I’m saying.”

“I know and you’re the reason why I know I can do this. You might not think I was paying attention but I was. I saw what you went through. I learned from you, Rah. I can do this.”

I chuckled and nodded. “Aight then. Let’s add on to this Allen empire.” I dapped my brother and he smiled so damn big that I was sure his face was at risk of breaking.

“That’s what I’m talking about.” He nodded, eyes sweeping his new bar a grill. Right now it was just an empty space but in a few months, this place would be full of customers who were ready to hand over their hard earned cash.

“I’m about to head out. You good here or you need me to stay?”

“You’re bailing on me?”

“I have shit to do and this is your baby, not mine.
