Montezz: Actions Speak Louder Than Words

Nova’s bullshit really had my mind gone for the rest of the morning. I made it to my business at a quarter of ten, and we were already packed for the damn day. I tried not to show my emotions, but the ones closest to me knew when I had something troubling me.

“Tezz.” James approached me in the workstation after a client paid his bill. “Can I holla at you for a second?”

“What is it, man.” I avoided eye contact with my oldest friend. I didn’t have time for that shit today or any day. “You know we got a lot of cars to finish on. What’s up?”

“I was just about to ask you that.” James looked me up and down before speaking once more. “Now, I understand that you have a business to run, and I’m not trying to stand in the way of your paper, or mine for that matter! But I’ve known you since we were both knee-high to a grasshopper, so miss me with all that hard shit, okay? What’s really on your mind, and don’t bullshit me!”

“Now is not the time for all of this, man,” I sighed and dapped up my friend. I really did need a friend to lean on, but I had to handle my business first.

“I just want you to know that I’m here for you, you feel me?” James gave me a sympathetic nod, and I appreciated it.

“I know that you got me.” I let off a nervous laugh and tried to remain professional in front of our next customer. “We can link up after hours.”

“Sounds like a plan to me,” James replied and looked over the client’s paperwork. “I gotta tell you about my new project that I’ve been working on.”

“Oh, shit!” I let off a laugh and knew immediately that he found a new pussy to fuck. “Damn, my dude! I thought things were going good with the doctor assistant you been fuckin’ for over a month! I can’t wait to hear about this one!”

“Yeah.” James shrugged his shoulders and began to check on the engine. “Things are still tight with Angela, but you know me. I get tired of the same ol’ thang, and sometimes I gotta switch it up!”

“I feel ya, bruh.” I shrugged my shoulders and thought back to my life before Nova walked into it. “I used to be on the same thing as you. Going from skirt to skirt and bitch to bitch, but after a while, a nigga gotta get tired of that shit. You know what I’m sayin’, bruh?”

“You trippin’, Tezz!” James joked at my expense. “We still in our prime, and ain’t nobody tryin’ to hear all that locked-down bullshit! Stop talkin’ crazy, and don’t let Nova cloud your head with all that mess!”

“You leave her outta this!” I felt my blood boil and tried to hold my composure in my place of business.

“Look at you, man.” James tried to check me. “She’s changin’ you,
