Hours pass long into the night before I finally receive word of Trevin’s arrival. Uriel has been keeping me busy with tales of his life, and what he’s been up to in his own clan throughout the years.

I am definitely impressed.

Though he’s courted many women, none have given him the spark he’s been looking for. He has a proficient business being a tanner, making and selling leathers across the reserve to those who need it. However, the longing for a family is still the only thing that troubles him.

We both head down to the front gate. Uriel whispers to me that I should probably brace myself for what is to come.

His warning comes too late.

Trevin grabs me up in a bear hug and spins me around. I don't know how he manages to be so tall, given that I’m 6’1”, but his mother must have fed him something extra to get to his height.

“My friend! How are you doing?”

“Right now, in pain,” I wheeze, hoping he takes that as a sign to put me down.

Thankfully, he does, and I’m pretty sure my ribs are bruised at this point. Yet, he claps me hard on the back, knocking the rest of the wind out of me. I manage to catch myself on the nearest railing before I stumble head over ass down the hill and out the gate.

“Uriel, he didn’t tell me Boston here was going to be so small!” Trevin leans over and pats me on the head like I’m a child.

“How was I supposed to know?” Uriel shrugs, but his grin gives him away. He’s enjoying this more than he should.

“Uriel here tells me you’re in a bit of trouble?” Anything to get the conversation off of me.

Trevin shoots Uriel a look, who shrugs again.

“Don’t look at me. I didn’t tell him anything.”

“Something about you courting the female alpha of another clan and getting kicked out?”

“Boston! Why are you lying? I said no such thing!” Uriel starts to back away at seeing the scowl on Trevin’s face. “Trevin! I didn’t say that!”

Trevin maintains the look for a while before he bursts out into laughter, his whole body shaking. His laugh is so booming I can feel it resonating in my chest. It’s difficult not to find his mirth infectious.

“Come, let’s share some drinks inside so that we’re not disturbing the rest of the homestead.”

It only takes an hour before Trevin has drained the rest of my alcohol dry, and he’s not showing an inkling of being intoxicated. Uriel, on the other hand, is something of a giggling schoolgirl, sharing whatever gossip pops into his head.

“You remember that one time we got the baker to give us some pies, saying that we were taking them to the alpha for his birthday?” Trevin roars, his short brown hair plastered to his forehead. For a man his size, he sweats a lot.

“And then we ate them all until we threw up? How could I forget that?” My face flushes warm at the memory.
