Eighteen
I wanted to sleep, but I couldnât, even though I was so relaxed, I couldnât bring myself to move. Instead, I just laid there in Ollieâs arms, letting him run his fingers through my hair, letting him pet me gently.
I thought about Rudy, Hotdog, Chappie and my grandma, my old life waiting for me back in Christmas. The thought of returning filled me with dread. If I went back, I would never see Ollie again. My heart clenched as I imagined him sitting in his rocking chair all alone, staring at the closed door as if I might come through it at any moment.
But I couldnât stay. The South Pole wasnât meant for humans. People just didnât give up their entire lives and disappear to live with monsters in the wilderness.
Why not, though? Why couldnât I? What was tying me to anything back home?
âWhat are you thinking about?â Ollie asked.
I swallowed and flashed a grin up at him, unwilling to admit that Iâd been contemplating leaving my entire life behind to be with him. âThat sting youâve got is a hell of a thing, Ollie.â
The flush of pink appeared on his cheeks again. He lowered his fingers to brush them over the slightly swollen spot on my ass. âDoes it hurt?â
âA little,â I admitted and snuggled back against him. âBut worth it. That was amazing.â
He buried his nose against my cheek. âMmm. It was. You were so tight and warm. I didnât think I would like having you inside of me as much as I did. I think I would like to do that again.â
It was my turn to blush. âI⦠uh⦠Wait.â I leaned back to look up at him with a frown. âYouâve done that before, right? With⦠someone else?â
Ollie shook his head, a fang gleaming in his sheepish grin. âNot that. I have never let anyone be inside my brood pouch before. Never wanted to.â
âWait, thatâs what that was?â I sat up, suddenly remembering some of what heâd told me earlier about Krampus mating. My face was burning, but I had to ask. âYouâre not⦠you know. Going to get pregnant from that?â
Ollieâs teeth gleamed in the low light. He tipped his head back and laughed before threading a hand down his tail and lifting it. âUnless you suddenly sprout one of these, no. Iâd need to be stung for my body to produce eggs in the pouch, Christopher. It doesnât happen without the proper hormones being injected. And since you donât have a mating pouch, there is no need to worry about your chances either.â
âOh.â I cleared my throat. âI just⦠You were talking about breeding me earlier and I didnât knowâ¦â
âI like to pretend,â he said, curling his tail around my leg.
I swallowed. âIs that why⦠The sting?â
His body stiffened and his tail unwound from me quickly. âI do not have to sting you if you dislike it. I will never, ever do it if you do not wish for it.â
âNo, Ollie.â I grabbed his tail and ran my hands gently over the soft fur just below the bulb.
