Kyra’s legs buckled as soon as Lucy’s hands released. She fought the nausea and dizziness, breathing heavily as she slowly turned her head.

“Congratulations for not puking on your first drift, for that you get a gold star,” Lucy grinned, holding a thumbs up. “Don’t worry, the sickness will pass once your molecules all merge back together. Or they won’t and you’ll forever be missing some bits, who knows,” he shrugged.

Kyra groaned, shakily climbing to her feet. The nausea had already passed, but the sudden bright light wasn’t helping the dizziness.

“Did you know those druids have more than one restricted library?” He clicked his tongue. “Sneaky bastards, keeping all that knowledge locked away.”

“Where’s Xander?” she asked, her throat surprisingly raw considering she hadn’t actually puked.

“Err, probably dealing with some pissed of druids right about now. He will be fine, he’s a big boy.” His featured cooled, eyes hardening.

“We don’t have long before Dirk comes, he would have felt you drift.”

“He can find me?” She didn’t need a mirror to know the colour had drained from her face, or any colour that was left after the drift.

“I have no idea, but you should have thought of that before you sucked face with him,” Lucy said as he rocked back on his heel. “What were you thinking? Dirk is… dangerous.”

“You seem to think I had a choice?”

“I’m not joking Kyra, he’s old, one of the originals. He’s feared even amongst my kind.”

The cold wind whipped at her hair, the strands escaping from her braid. “How can I stop him tracking me?”

“Whatever he spelled you with is traceable, it’s how the hounds…” Lucy’s head snapped to the side, eyes narrowed as he surveyed their surroundings. “Explain to me exactly what happened.”

Kyra had to think, her thoughts scrambled as she tried to remember the kiss, his tongue and the taste.

“It’s a basic possession charm,” Lucy said, eyes still wide with alarm. “It can be removed the same way it was administered.”

“With a kiss?” she asked. “Then get it out.”

Lucy took a large step back, arms raised. “No way, I’m not risking my head.”

“What?”

“You want Xee to eat me? Hell no, he can deal with it.”

Kyra was about to snap back her reply, but the ground trembled beneath her feet. She twisted, looking for a crack in the earth. The hairs at the back of her neck pricked, arcane burning her fingertips as she searched for whatever made the ground rumble.

Lucy snarled as he reached for her wrist, and drifted together with a static pop. Her surroundings changed, not that she had really paid attention to where they had just been. This time, however she recognised the road, and the empty bus shelter that was only a few minutes from the abbey.

Her feet settled solidly onto the concrete, her heart a rabbit in her chest as she searched for any of those hellhounds that may have followed. The shelter was made entirely of glass, one wall open to the elements.

“Fucking nasty vile creatures,” Lucy muttered, tugging at his torn t-shirt.
