Harleigh

“Harls!” Addy squeals when she sees me the next morning. Let’s just hope she doesn’t notice how funny I’m walking.

Last night was crazy intense. We couldn’t seem to stop touching each other, so our little orgy happened more than once, and each and every time they took care of me afterward like I was a precious charm they had to cradle and take care of. It made me feel special.

Not only that, but I’m feeling happier and clearer headed than I had since killing that scumbag. The darkness wasn’t even trying to creep in on me today.

I know it’s only a matter of time before it comes back, but for now, I’m actually happy again.

“Adds!” I squeal right back, and run into her as we wrap our arms around each other in a fit of giggles. “Omg I missed you!”

I pull away and look at her.

“I missed you too!” She hugs me again before pulling back. “How was… you know?” she whispers, and points to the floor, and I fall into a fit of laughter.

Leave it to my best friend to not want to say Hell in public.

“Uh, it was tough at first, but it was okay,” I tell her the truth.

“Was it scary?” she whispers to me again, and I snort.

“Nope. Dad and Gramps made sure I never saw those parts. It was basically like living in my dream park but with a house. They made up a special corner for me.” I smile at her, and she snorts.

“And here I thought I was the high maintenance one.”

Before I can answer, Dad cuts in. “From what I hear, you’re not nearly as high maintenance as you let on.” He gives her a knowing look, and I raise an eyebrow.

“Oh?” I look from her to Dad, and she shrugs.

“The guy was being nice. I didn’t want to be rude, and he taught me a lot. He was actually pretty cool for a really old dude.”

I snort, and Dad shakes his head.

“Well, I’m glad he was able to help you,” Dad tells her.

She nods, looking very serious.

“I want to help with this, Mark. If we go to war, I want to be there.” I take a nervous look around us, but no one is close enough to be listening, and I breathe a sigh of relief.

“You will be if it goes that far. But let’s keep that under wraps, yeah?”

She grimaces and nods, then Dad heads to grab his own lunch.

“So, no drama? That’s a very different Addy than I’m used to.” I poke her, and she gives me a sad smile.

“I grew up a lot over the summer, Harls. Came to a lot of realizations about life.” I look at her and see the tears building up.

“Hey.” I pull her in for a hug. “It’s going to be okay.” I rub her back as she cries into my shoulder, the guys all leaving us to have our conversation in private.

They don’t move far, just to the table over so they can still be near and protect us, and I love the fuck out of them for it.
