Faithfulness always brings increased opportunities! For those who are diligent, doors will open that remain closed for those who approach their purpose in life haphazardly. However, faithfulness does not always generate the promised promotion we desire in the manner or time frame we always expect it. Sometimes the way up is down.

Along with the increased opportunities there are increased struggles and disappointments. There are times that no matter what we do, it seems that everything is going wrong. We pray . . . we fast . . . yet, adversity still seems to come to our lives.

Someone has said, “Success breeds success,” and I certainly agree that the momentum of fruitfulness is a valuable asset in everyone’s life. But we must also admit that success creates a whole new set of issues in a person’s life. Before you were promoted, everyone enjoyed your company, laughed at your jokes and told you their troubles. Now that you, like the television sitcom character George Jefferson, have “moved on up to the East Side,” your advancement has become a magnet for obstacles and difficult people. Friends with whom you once had close fellowship now withdraw from you due to their own insecurities and hidden jealousy. People who once helped you up stand off in the corner and talk about you, criticizing your newly experienced success. Your promotion will demand that you go to a new level of maturity.
